This one is for you.
Bounded Uncertainty is about understanding people’s differences through the lens of the Free Energy Principle, Active Inference, the Theory of Constructed Emotion, the Science of Learning, and the resilience/flexibility mindset as put forward by George Bonanno. At B(e) Y(ou) — see what we did here? — we strive to help people make better sense of themselves, foster deeper shared understanding, and ultimately—most importantly—live better lives.
We want to tear down the shackles of the prisons of the mind. We want the 15-year-old to stop crying themselves to sleep, feeling like nobody understands them. We want to help the parents of a 3-year-old understand that a pancake is only a pancake when it is whole. We want the 8-year-old to know to slow their flow, and for his teachers and parents to know how hard he tries.
We are a different beast.
A personal note from Ricardo: the questions that gave rise to Bounded Uncertainty have been with me for more than 30 years. Even then, it was clear to me that many people move through life confused, perplexed, or distressed by their differences, unaware of them, as if they were a fragile raft in the seas of the Atlantic. Torn apart constantly, prey to the strong winds, not a shore in sight, unseen by the lighthouses.
And nobody knows. Nobody understands. Those who see, don’t know it. Those who know? Few and far between.
So, from rock to rock, island to island, trying to run through seasons as quickly as possible, lives are wasted. Or, lives are a shadow of what could be. The light is dim.
We want to shed light: enlighten your understanding of yourself, vicariously, other people’s understanding of yourself, and for you to wear it. Seriously, to wear it. To feel it. To touch it. To use it. To Be You within Bounded Uncertainty.
That’s it. It is that simple and, yet, so powerfully evading and deceiving. Like the shapeshifting life that overpowers us, we want the uncertainty to be bound. You hold the reins of boundedness. You take the helm. You are the captain of this ship.
